NCS Guidelines

The National Coding System (NCS) standardizes referencing of places across all actors in Myanmar. It provides a single unified system for referring to locations, allowing for free exchange of data between those using the NCS.

A common column with the respective NCS code is required in each table to be linked up.

Usually data type of the NCS code column should be “text” type.

Using NCS codes in existing databases.

It is not required to replace your current codes in existing database with NCS codes.  Doing so could corrupt your database in the worst case.

Instead, map your current codes with NCS codes and store in a intermediate table which could be used during data aggregation and exporting your results along with NCS codes for sharing with others.

Excel Pcoder add-in can quickly match your existing place names with NCS.
